You are BIG STUFF

My lovely, darling Celia--
Today, I had the privilege of watching the baptism of a very little guy named Wesley.  He was surrounded by his brother, Mom and Dad, Godparents, a priest and a Bishop.  And he looked so, very small, in his two weeks old body and giant, white baptismal garment.

Sometime, in the not-to-distant future, I'll have the honor of standing up with your family and beaming at you as your parents present you for baptism.  You won't be quite as small as Wesley, but you'll still be "little" by the world's standards.  But, God will think you are BIG STUFF on that day!

He will be so proud of your parents for agreeing that you should be brought up in God's church.  He'll be so happy that your Godparents will stand by you, throughout your life, and say blessings over you and love you and agree to protect you with prayer, come what may.  You will have such an army of people loving over you that day that you'll be the center of attention.

And, even though the day you are baptized is a really, super-important day, there are going to be lots of days in your life that aren't filled with big celebrations.  There may be plenty of days when you think "I didn't accomplish much that matters today."  But, even in the ho-hum kind of days when nothing exciting happens, I want you to remember this truth:  every day is an opportunity for you to celebrate how special God is to you.  Every day is a day when you stand in the center of God's attention and He should stand in yours.

Even when wars are raging around the world and the economy is in poor shape and you are mad at one of your sisters, God is watching, listening, and speaking JUST TO YOU.  He wants you to love Him by paying attention to His word and praying to Him.  And, if you choose Him and pay close heed to what He needs you to know, you will see that God has a message just for you.  Out of billions of people, He will be speaking directly to you.

If I could help you know anything today, it would be that.  Yes, your baptism is an extra-special day, just like each time we celebrate your birthday or you graduate from High School or get married.  But, God doesn't just notice you on those days.  He notices you every second of every minute of every day.  And, no matter how you are acting or what you are doing, He loves you all the time.

I hope, someday, you'll get to witness the baptism of a young child or are honored by being picked as some body's Godmother so you'll see how very special this day can be.  But, I hope you'll remember, every day of your life, that you are special in God's eyes.

Your biggest cheerleader,
Godmomma Jill
