Patriotism

Sweet Celia--
Someday in the future, when September 11th comes around and people make a big deal about what happened in 2001, you will probably be perplexed.  Like me, when people would talk about history from the time before I was born, you won't completely understand because you weren't there.

But, those of us who were around will never forget where we were and what we were doing on that day.  And we pray, that through our memories, your generation will understand and.  And learn.  And move forward into a future where this kind of terror doesn't happen.

God loves all His children, Celia.  He doesn't discriminate based on color or gender or age.  He just loves us all the same.  So, it really hurts Him when we decide that someone who isn't like us should be punished because they don't live the same way we do.

And, in a nutshell and in a very elementary way, that is what happened on 9/11/11.  People died because they were American.  Or, they happened to be on American soil.  Or, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It was discrimination, no matter what the history books say.  It was filled with envy and jealousy and rage and other things the Bible calls "acts of a sinful nature" in Galatians.  There was no love or peace or joy in this acts.

But, even though it was pure evil, what happened next is the stuff of God.  People came together and drove across the country to help people they didn't even know.  Families offered support to complete strangers by pledging millions, if not billions, of dollars to assist those directly affected by these terrorist acts.  Love flowed through our country like crazy.  It was amazing.

As with all good things, even this came to an end.  People slowly returned to their old ways.  They forgot.  They got angry and bitter and vengeful.  Our country forgot the lessons of 9/11.

Sadly, the Bible states there is "nothing new under the sun", which means we will continue to repeat our past by not learning lessons and truly taking them to heart.  It will probably continue on this way until Jesus returns, when there will finally be something new under the sun!

I pray your generation doesn't have a huge war or a horrific terrorist attack or any other catastrophic event that you all claim you will never forget.  Because, sadly, you will.

Hopefully, my generation can instill some piece of the events of that chilling day in September, 2001 into your hearts so you won't forget.  And, maybe, you'll learn.  And, maybe, your generation will avoid what my generation didn't.

If that comes it all?  I think there would be a ray of hope passed down, generation to generation.

I'm not sure we could ask for much more than that.

I love you, honey!
Patriotically,
GodmommaJ
